The Italian node of the European ALMA Regional Centre organizes a meeting on the subject of mm-VLBI with ALMA, to be held at the INAF-Istituto di Radioastronomia (Bologna, Italy) on 22nd January 2015.
Il nodo italiano dell'ALMA Regional Centre Europeo organizza il "Terzo Workshop sull'Astronomia millimetrica e submillimetrica in
Italia" che si terra' presso l'Istituto di Radioastronomia di Bologna il 20-21 Gennaio 2015.


Very long baseline interferometry at millimetre/submillimetre wavelengths offers the highest achievable spatial resolution at any wavelength in astronomy and the inclusion of ALMA into a global network will bring unprecedented sensitivity.  
Il meeting vuole essere un'occasione di incontro per la comunita' italiana interessata alla ricerca nel campo (sub)millimetrico. Si discutera' di progetti scientifici gia' proposti per ALMA o da svilupparsi per il futuro, di progetti proposti per altri strumenti operanti nelle bande
millimetriche, e di sinergie con strumentazone in altre bande. Spazio verra' dato anche agli sviluppi tecnico-strumentali.  


An international consortium is presently constructing a beamformer for ALMA in Chile that will be available as a facility instrument. The extraordinary sensitivity of phased ALMA, combined with the extremely fine angular resolution available on baselines to the Northern Hemisphere, will enable transformational new very long baseline interferometry observations at 0.8 mm and 1.3 mm band, and provide substantial improvements to existing VLBI arrays at 7 and 3 mm. The ALMA beamformer will have impact on a variety of scientific topics, including accretion and outflow processes around black holes in active galactic nuclei, tests of general relativity near black holes, jet launch and collimation from AGN and microquasars, pulsar and magnetar emission processes, the chemical history of the universe and the evolution of fundamental constants across cosmic time, maser science, and astrometry.
Il meeting si articolera' in sessioni dedicate a ciascuna delle grandi tematiche della ricerca astronomica millimetrica e submillimetrica,
dal vicino sistema solare all'universo remoto. Particolare attenzione sara' rivolta ad ALMA ed ai progetti di PI italiani approvati nei primi 3 cicli. Verra' altresi' colta l'occasione per presentare i futuri piani di sviluppo del nodo ARC, lasciando momenti di discussione per raccogliere suggerimenti dalla comunita'.


At this workshop we want to review this broadrange of science topics allowed by mm-VLBI with ALMA and also discuss the status of the existing and future mm-VLBI networks. This should involve not only current VLBI users but also those who are just becoming interested in this rapidly evolving field.
Al workshop c'e' spazio per circa 20 'contributing talks' (ca. 15m+5m).


At the workshop there is room for ~ 10 contributing talks (ca. 15 min), either on AGN and maser science.

Il nodo italiano dell'ALMA Regional Centre Europeo organizza il "Terzo Workshop sull'Astronomia millimetrica e submillimetrica in Italia" che si terra' presso l'Istituto di Radioastronomia di Bologna il 20-21 Gennaio 2015.

Il meeting vuole essere un'occasione di incontro per la comunita' italiana interessata alla ricerca nel campo (sub)millimetrico. Si discutera' di progetti scientifici gia' proposti per ALMA o da svilupparsi per il futuro, di progetti proposti per altri strumenti operanti nelle bande millimetriche, e di sinergie con strumentazone in altre bande. Spazio verra' dato anche agli sviluppi tecnico-strumentali.

Il meeting si articolera' in sessioni dedicate a ciascuna delle grandi tematiche della ricerca astronomica millimetrica e submillimetrica, dal vicino sistema solare all'universo remoto.
