Use of the ACA for short baseline interferometry and single-dish observations will only be offered to complement observations with the 12-m Array, and not as a stand-alone capability.
You can visit us for a direct face-to-face support. A member of the node staff will sit down with you and directly help you with your project, from setting up the project in the ALMA OT, to enhanced data reduction.

It is anticipated that about 2000 hours of 12-m Array time and ACA time will be available for Cycle 2 projects and highest priority projects transferred from Cycle 1. Complete details are available in the Cycle 2 [http://almascience.eso.org/documents-and-tools/cycle-2/alma-proposers-guide Proposer's Guide].
'''The ALMA helpdesk'''

You can contact the Italian ARC node through the ALMA helpdesk. Your question will be logged in the helpdesk and delegated to the appropriate person. Many questions are also already addressed in articles available on the helpdesk. The helpdesk is the official channel for getting help with ALMA observations, and ensures that your question is properly logged and tracked.
Cycle 2 operations will be conducted on a best efforts basis, similar to Cycle 1 and Cycle 0 observations, and in parallel with commissioning and verification of the whole ALMA system.

Successful proposers will share risk with ALMA. Observatory staff will perform data quality assurance and will provide reduced data products via the ALMA Regional Centers (ARCs). But project completion cannot be guaranteed, and the quality of the data and data reduction may not meet the standards expected when ALMA is in full scientific operations.

The Italian ARC node provides support to ALMA users in Italy, from proposal preparation to data reduction and analysis. In addition to general and specialist support services, we provide extra support to the community by planning special activities in connection with proposal deadlines, and offer to give seminars and tutorials at institutes in Italy.

The support services provided are

  • proposal preparation and optimising observing setups.
  • proposal evaluation before submission, providing feedback on optimizing your proposal.
  • data reduction and specialized analysis.
  • ALMA archive data retrieval, processina and production of advanced products.
  • tutorials and workshops at INAF-IRA in Bologna or at Italian institutes.

Special Support

Each of the European ARC nodes offers specialist scientific and technical expertise to the whole European ALMA community, in addition to general support services to its region. At the Italian ARC this expertise includes:

  • polarimetry
  • mmVLBI
  • array combination
  • archive data mining.

See the Areas of expertise page for more details.
